Satsang by Swami Swatmananda

Pujya Sw. Swatmananda ji addressed the students of the Foundation Vedant Course at Chinmaya Nursery, Kemps Corner.
In an interactive Q&A session, Swami ji cleared the doubts by answering questions posed by the audience.
Here's a glimpse of today's session :

Q. What is sublimation?
A. Clarity + Courage + Consistency
The clarity that why do we need to make the change.
The courage to live by that conviction.
To have the consistency and will power to not compromise.

Q. Why does God not want us to know our past?
A. Because we are not capable of handling that information. We are so deeply identified with our body and our roles of this life which, become our experiences. We can't let go of the experiences and memories of this life, so how will we manage knowing what all has happened in our previous lives!

Q. What is detachment? Is it the same as disinterest?
A. Detachment and love are not opposed to each other. Detachment is non-possiveness and non-dependancy on others for my happiness.

Q. If everything is destined then what is the role of self-effort?
A. With prabal purushartha, one can even divert death. Our today's self-effort may or may not change our prarabdha but can influence it. Today's purushartha is tomorrow's prarabdha. So, even though a situation comes to us because of our destiny, our own past karmas, we have the choice and free will to put in an effort and try and change it.

The session ended with Vinita ji Asrani, zonal head of Chinmaya Mission South Mumbai, inspiring each one to study the Vedanta.
