Text about the exhibit
How does a Realized Master speak (deal with the people)?

दुःखेष्वनुद्विग्नमनाः सुखेषु विगतस्पृहः ।
वीतरागभयक्रोधः स्थितधीर्मुनिरुच्यते ॥२- ५६॥
He whose mind is not shaken by adversity, who does not hanker after pleasures, who is free from attachment, fear and anger, is called a sage of steady wisdom. ॥2- 56॥

यः सर्वत्रानभिस्नेहस्तत्तत्प्राप्य शुभाशुभम् ।
नाभिनन्दति न द्वेष्टि तस्य प्रज्ञा प्रतिष्ठिता ॥२- ५७॥

He who is everywhere without attachment, on meeting with anything good or bad, who neither rejoices nor hates, his Wisdom is fixed. ॥2- 57॥

Attachment is “I” and “I want”. Represented in the form of an equation this can be seen as I + I want = Attachment. This thought bondage needs to be dropped. When I feel incomplete, I want something to feel complete. This psychological dependency on objects, people, situations for one’s happiness is called attachment. A man of perfection has discovered completeness as one’s nature and is detached(yet loving) from everyone and everything. Fear and anger also do not bind him since their cause – attachment has been dropped.

How to be detached?

Attach & Detach – Attach to the higher and detach from the lower.
Never Mind! – Swami Chinmayananda used this often to accept life as it comes, with courage and equanimity, without any complains.
So What? – He gave this to mantra reminds us to have a macro vision of Life and let go of disappointments & elation.

Anecdote 1:

: United Nations conferred an award on Swami Chinmayananda for his contribution to humanity. The Citation was received on his behalf by some members of Chinmaya Mission Chennai & sent with the CHYKs to Mumbai. Upon reaching Mumbai, in the excitement to meet Swamiji, they left a bag in the taxi. Swamiji welcomed them with a lot of love. Suddenly the CHYKs realized that the bag with citation was left. They thought that Poojya Gurudev would get angry. He laughed it off and enquired - “You lost your bag. Do you have enough clothes and money for your stay?” Neither was he elated on receiving such a prestigious award from the UN, nor sad/angry on losing it. Om Samabuddhaye Namah

Anecdote 2:

Once Swamiji was walking in a procession with people and suddenly an elephant came charging at them and everyone ran. Swamiji was in the centre of the road and stood firm and fearless. The elephant came and settled down. When the people returned, he said - “Brahmanah Santu Nirbhayaah” - Noble people must be fearless.

Anecdote 3:

Swami Chinmayananda was known for punctuality. To inaugurate a Yagna, the President of India was the Chief Guest. But he was late. Swamiji waited for a few minutes and then started. The President came late and joined the yagna in the audience. Swamiji continued the talks and stopped a few minutes before the end and invited the President saying - if the First Citizen of the country does not follow punctuality, how will others follow?

Anecdote 4:

Swami Chinmayananda used anger as a tool for discipline. Once he came to Mumbai from somewhere and there were people gathered to receive him. One Brahmachari was also there. As soon as Swamiji saw him, he got very angry and scolded the Brahmachari for something wrong he had done. The next moment a child came and Swamiji very lovingly held the child and started playing

Design Notes

The second archway is in the shape of the lotus, depicting how a realised master is ever detached while relating with the people and things. The ramp slowly ascends and there is a lily pond at the ground level.
