Guru Smaran Saptah Day 4 - 6th of May 2021

Guru Smaran Saptah- Day 4, 6th May:

Sevika - Shruti Somani

Thursday Worli class

Attended by 6 of us.

We started by the chanting of the Guru Stotram, with each one chanting some verses.

The discussion on the book was whole hearted and very enthusiastic. It was great to hear each one's perspective and learnings from the book, only some of which can be captured below:

Pujya Gurudev's attitude during the Yatra! Age wise, just 32. But so focussed on the purpose in and through all the various observations He made.

Compared to His pilgrimage, ours are in 7star luxury, yet our attention is lost on the purpose.

Was pointed out how Pujya Gurudev exhibits the four fold qualifications in and through the Yatra.

Some members felt they were on the Yatra with Him, whilst some felt they were watching Him. Some members picked up the book looking for profound statements and were surprised to find it like a travelogue. Yet, there was no one in class who was not touched at different levels, by learning of His travails and the attitude adopted. The others felt the profundity in just the observation of Pujya Gurudev's Yatra.

Can we be so dog tired, with barely any proper food and yet, have the focus to sit for japa and meditation at the end of the day? Especially after having woken up so early and in the living conditions described therein?

Can we retain our sense of humour?

He came from a very affluent family, formal sannyas Deeksha was given the year after this book. But, Gurudev was already a renunciate!

A member pointed out how Gurudev's journey in his notations seem to go from the gross to the subtle; He keeps his differences of opinion ( with Swami J) aside and helps him, His compassion towards the elderly, His ability to take note of so many things and the language used even in a diary!

These are just some of the points of discussion. What stood out was the love and admiration for our Pujya Gurudev!

We ended the session with Arti.
