By the grace of Bhagwan & blessings of Pujya Gurudev, Narayan Zone successfully
completed Zonal Geeta Chanting Competition (GCC) on 15th December.
More than 3200 students from more than 35 schools and 42 adults registered for the
competition. We added 5 new schools this year and registrations were 50% more than that of
last year. The preparations for the competition began in July with more than 30 Sevaks
putting in herculean effort to personally visit schools and train the students.
Taking into consideration the tremendous response in terms of registrations, the first round of
competition for few schools was planned and completed before Diwali. The first round for
the remaining schools was conducted after Diwali, over a period of 3 weeks from 20th
November to 11th December. During this period, we conducted almost one competition per
day. This was possible only because of the spirit of co-operation and flexibility shown by the
sevaks.
The Zonal Final of 430 participants across all groups - nursery to 70 years, was conducted on
15th December at Acharya College, Chembur. The zonal final was conducted in two sessions,
one each for Chembur and Ghatkopar area.
During both the sessions, parent’s workshop was conducted by Sunita Ramkumar and
Manisha Deole, which included games & activities. The parents wholeheartedly participated
in the activities. The resident Acharya of the zone, Swamini Bhoomanandaji addressed the
parents and informed them about the upcoming Yagna by Swami Swatmanandaji and the Hi5
Balavihar camp.
The parent’s session included a unique game "Geeta Marathon" which was played between
the two teams consisting of school students from SPRJ Kanyashala. The two teams were
given the first two words of any random shloka from any chapter of Geeta in quick
succession and the girls were able to identify and chant the particular Shloka. The students
also delivered two short talks on Bhagwad Geeta.
A book-stall consisting of well selected books to appeal to all age groups, was set up at the
venue, which received good response.
Both the sessions concluded with prize distribution ceremony with winners of each group
being felicitated with trophy/medal and the certificates.
