Hindu New Year Celebration

To celebrate Hindu New Year, a meet was organized for Chyks and their parents in Chinmaya Narayan zone on 19th April.

Consistent with the theme, the Chyks & their parents were blindfolded as they entered & were taken to view the ‘Vishu kani’, an auspicious display of items as celebrated in Kerala for New year. The icebreaking activity involved mixed groups of Chyks & parents making & decorating a ‘Gudi’, as celebrated in Maharashtra. There was a sugarcane eating contest that was tightly competed by the contestants and thoroughly enjoyed by the audience to reflect the Baisakhi spirit. ‘Kolam’ (rangoli) making activity that represented Tamil Nadu brought out the creativity in Chyks & parents alike. There was a blind tasting activity where the members had to list out ingredients in ‘Pachadi’, a preparation made during Ugadi. The mixture of different tastes symbolized different experiences of life. Music from the respective states was played during each activity.

Later, Shri. Aravind, the Chyk Secretary spoke about the significance of New Year and the symbolism behind the activities in great detail. Yuvaveer Swetha made a concise PPT presentation on the benefits of Chyk & the various activities that are organized. Shri. Sanjit, the sevak, put forth the future plans & activities that were being planned for the class.

Feedback and suggestions were obtained regarding the Chyk class and a pledge was taken by all present to ensure improved attendance & regularity in the class. Prasad was distributed at the end which included banana chips and rasogolla to bring out the flavour of Bengali New year.
