On a beautiful morning,this year's Sankranti celebration had Pongal as theme. Our celebration commenced near Gurudev Pratima with heartfelt opening prayers, setting a peaceful and spiritual tone. Following, we engaged in a meaningful discussion about Bhogi, children enthusiastically wrote down their negative thoughts and worries on pieces of paper. These notes were then burnt in bonfire, symbolizing destruction of negativity and the welcoming of positive energies and new beginnings.
We shared stories and insights about the harvest festival Pongal. Kids donned vibrant Surya Bhagawan masks and chanted the Surya Sloka, invoking prosperity and health.
The discussion continued with a focus on Mattu Pongal, celebrating the cattle that sustain our agriculture. This was complemented by a lively game of passing the sugarcane, symbolizing unity and the sweetness of life.
Later, we explored the significance of Kaanum Pongal, emphasizing social bonds.The celebration was enlivened with joyful dance performance.
An offering of Naivedyam followed by Aarti, we expressed gratitude to Surya Bhagawan.
The Shishuvihar class was buzzing with festive mood today.
They were told about the significance and how the festival of Makar Sankranti/Magh Bihu/Lohri/Utarayan/ Pongal is celebrated in various parts of India with different names but sharing the same essence of gratitude to nature .
Thereafter they stepped out to light the Lohri bonfire and dance around it, offering peanuts and popcorn to it.
After which they all made kites and joyfully shouted out -'Kai poche'.The class ended with Arti and distribution of special prasad of Til gud, sugarcane,peanuts,popcorn and sheera.
